Give a quick shoutout for your favorite places at PlaceShout
Have you ever wanted to post something about a favorite restaurant or shop in one of those city guides where users contribute content, but you’re too busy to sit and write out a detailed review? Meet PlaceShout, a site for snappy user reviews that’s perfect for our attention deficit culture. Organized by city, you can contribute your own two cents (in this case, exactly 100 characters, no more) about your favorite restaurant, club, park, shop, farmer’s market, whatever, as well as look up places that you think might have been mentioned by someone else. If you agree with the contributer’s comments (”best fried chicken in the world,” for instance), you can click “agree” under that item in Digg-like fashion. Nokia X02NK To Hit Japan

Nokia X02NK To Hit Japan
Looks like Japan isn’t only the Land of the Rising Sun, but it ought to be dubbed the Land of the Many Cell Phones as well. Nokia is tipped to release its dual-slider handset known as X02NK soon. This smartphone will come with a 5 megapixel camera with auto-focus, a Carl Zeiss lens, Nokia Maps support, GPS navigation, and rather lengthy talk times (160 minutes in WCDMA mode and 240 minutes in GSM mode). There is no word on pricing, but the Nokia X02NK will be available this April in a choice of red, storm blue and white colors. Guess this is one of those rare moments where Japan gets a handset later than the rest of the world - it is actually a Nokia N95 if you look closer. Forbidden Set Shows Darkest Side of LEGO [Shocking]
I thought I got all the coolest LEGO sets in history, but a reader pointed out what’s probably the most shocking, darkest non-secret in its 50 years: a minifig wearing black tanga briefs. And when I say “briefs”, I mean brief. All I can ask is why? Why Mr. Kirk? Why all this painful detail? And is that David Hasselhoff, per chance? [LEGO - Thanks Esteban] (Read the full post about ‘Forbidden Set Shows Darkest Side of LEGO [Shocking]’…)

O2 Triples Minutes on Cheapest UK iPhone Plan
Maybe Apple reads Gadget Lab after all. No sooner do we complain about price gouging customers outside the US, than O2 in the UK introduces new iPhone tariffs. The £35 ($51) tariff gets bumped from 200 to 600 inclusive minutes and now has 500 text messages, up from 300. The £45 and £55 ($66 and $81) rates effectively get merged, with the £45 plan getting the service level of the £55 (1200 minutes and 500 texts). And for just £75 ($110), customers can enjoy 3,000 minutes along with 500 SMS messages. All new charges begin February 7th, but it might take until March for some customers to be switched over. Yes, it’s still expensive, but at least now you can call more people to complain about it. (Read the full post about ‘O2 Triples Minutes on Cheapest UK iPhone Plan’…)

Air purifiers under fire for ozone emission
Posted Jan 29th 2008 8:47AM by Evan BlassFiled under: Household Normally we’re supposed to be concerned about depleting ozone levels to the point where we inhabit one big sauna, but according to an investigative piece by the Wall Street Journal (subscription required), household air purifiers which produce the gas as a byproduct may also pose a significant threat. Studies cited by the Journal suggest that both ozone generation as well as filtration models can emit dangerous levels of the reactive gas, which can be harmful either when inhaled directly or when combined with other common chemicals. HTC Touch Dual Review - PC Pro

Written by admin on Tuesday, January 29th, 2008 in gadgets.

PC Pro reviews the HTC Touch Dual and writes, “The original Touch launched as an iPhone competitor, but although the touch interface was great for viewing photos and playing music it was a chore to send texts or even to make phone calls. That’s what the sliding keyboard of its follow-up - the Touch Dual - aims to address.”

Pink Blackberry Pearl Aimed at Consumer Market as RIM Feels iPhone Heat [Pinkberry]
RIM’s response to the market-share-gulping iPhone is to try to appeal to the female consumer by splashing pink paint all over the Blackberry Pearl. Sigh. Why do some manufacturers insist on churning out pink versions of their products for women? Research says women are not particularly into it—unless, of course, she is a crack-addled nutcase who has yet to leave her tweenage Barbie phase behind.
