Microsoft already trimming Windows 7 features, DirectX 11 on the outs?
Posted Feb 9th 2008 4:10PM by Paul MillerFiled under: Desktops, Gaming, Laptops It might be a bit early for us to be talking Windows 7 feature cuts, but that said, isn’t it a bit early for Microsoft to be talking Windows 7 feature cuts? If The Inquirer’s “reliable sources” are to be believed, Microsoft is giving DirectX 11 the boot from its next version of Windows to keep hardware requirements down — apparently the DirectX 10 requirements of Vista were enough of that sort of trouble for one decade. Samsung sued for defective Blu-ray players
Posted Feb 9th 2008 10:57AM by Darren MurphFiled under: HDTV, Home Entertainment We’ll be straight with you — we aren’t surprised one iota by this one. For those keeping tabs, Samsung’s slate of Blu-ray players have been plagued with issues essentially from day one, and while it has released a flurry of firmware updates over the years in an attempt to mend a variety of incompatibility issues, even its recent BD-UP5000 hybrid player is being axed early on after giving owners all sorts of fits. Apparently, one particular buyer isn’t taking things lying down, and has decided to file suit against the mega-corp alleging that it has sold “defective Blu-ray players” to consumers. Creative announces price cut on their 32GB Zen
Recently, there have been many price cuts and additions of cool new players, from the Microsoft Zune to Apple’s iPod Touch. A lot of which encourage people to stray away from Apple and Microsoft, most recently Creative has decided to cut prices of their 32GB Zen by about $30 in efforts to boost sales. The price of Apple’s 32GB iPod Touch is $499, albeit comes loaded with a lot of cool features, but for the same storage, the Creative Zen is nice and compact device is now only $299. However, you can’t exactly compare this to the iPod Touch, so if you were to compare this to the iPod nano, for about a $100 more than the $199 price tag of the 8GB model, you get quadruple the storage plus an FM radio. DLO’s iPhone-shielded Portable Speakers
Posted Feb 9th 2008 7:55AM by Paul MillerFiled under: Home Entertainment, Portable Audio Recognize this sound? “Blip da da blip da da blip da da blip da da bliiiiiiiip.” If you answered yes to any of the preceding questions, you may own an iPhone. The little bugger wreaks havoc on your average unsuspecting, unshielded desktop speaker — and most iPod docks, as it turns out — emitting audible blasts of interference from up to three or four feet away. Luckily, the DLO Portable Speakers for iPhone don’t have that problem, since they’re shielded from TDMA interference. You can power ‘em off of AAA batteries or an AC adapter, and since they plug into the iPhone’s headphone jack, you can use plenty of other audio sources. Pot Tickers - Timers for every pan

Pot Tickers - Timers for every pan

This is a simple but cool idea, Pot Tickers, a tiny timer that slots onto pan handles. Pot-Tickers are a cooking timing dealy my Mom actually came up with because she would burn what she was cooking. A lot. They are handle holders which go on the skillet handle, potholders, and aprons all with digital timers attached. They solve the problem for those who don’t have any free disk space in the ol’ brain.p.u. and allow them to time everything they’re cooking (multiple items) at once and know exactly what’s done and when! You can get further info and buy Pot Tickers from $8 over at Pot-Tickers.com. (Read the full post about ‘Pot Tickers - Timers for every pan’…)

I was never in the chess club at school. At times, though I was tempted to join, it and the people in it; were never quite my flavor. That is not to say I do not enjoy a game of chess, on the contrary, I love the occasional game. I cannot think of any better way to spend an evening than with a fine cigar, a nip of Bowmore Mariner Single Malt Scotch Whiskey and a Mammoth Ivory Collector Series Signature Chess Set with pieces made from 40,000-year-old mammoth ivory.
