En-Twyn’s En-Compass incorporates Powerline into socket
Posted Mar 8th 2008 3:40PM by Darren MurphFiled under: Networking CeBIT and Powerline seem to have a thing for one another, and sure enough, this year we’re seeing yet another firm storm onto the scene in an attempt to advance the flagging technology. London-based En-Twyn set up shop in Germany to showcase its En-Compass, which doesn’t require any special wall cutouts and differs from most other Powerline systems by packing its electronics on the backside. In other words, you won’t have any unsightly adapters protruding from the front. (Read the full post about ‘En-Twyn’s En-Compass incorporates Powerline into socket’…)

Trent Reznor, NIN confirms BitTorrent, website uploads
In a move that is not all that surprising, especially after Trent Reznor had confirmed being an OiNK user himself, Nine Inch Nails (NIN) have confirmed the legality of uploading and are actually encouraging the sharing Ghosts I. They have in fact not only made Ghosts I available for free directly from their own website, but also uploaded the 9 tracks (or torrents) to other places to include The Pirate Bay, What.cd and Waffles.fm. Not only was Ghosts I uploaded, the tracks were also uploaded as a nice high quality 320kpbs LAME encoded album. Of course I am fairly certain that any NIN fan will quickly shell out the $5 to purchase the complete collection, which also is available in a variety of formats. Nyko’s rumbling Zero Wireless PS3 controller goes on sale
Posted Mar 8th 2008 10:38AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Gaming, Peripherals Over a year (yeah, really) after this thing was originally announced, Nyko has finally slid the final piece in place in order to offer up the rumbling, bumbling Zero Wireless PS3 controller to end users. Granted, the version hitting shelves as we speak does include rumble, but since you’ve waited this long, you’re probably better off getting the real deal when it lands in April — for $5 less. GeCube Genie PC; Complete with semi-useful detachable display

GeCube Genie PC; Complete with semi-useful detachable display
Yet another ultra-portable styled notebook is hitting the market, this time its the GeCube Genie PC and it comes complete with a trick of its own. In a twist on the tablet pc with a rotating display, the Genie PC’s display will actually separate from the notebook. The Genie PC features a 7-inch display, a pretty low 2GB of flash-based storage, runs a Linux-based OS and retails for $450. Now back to that detachable display, it kind of sounds better or at least more useful than it may prove to be with actual use. See the display is not touch-based. It does have a trackpad on the side, so you could still sit back and browse around the web, that is until you needed to type something. iPod nano sparks bedroom fire, no humans harmed
Posted Mar 8th 2008 11:26AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Portable Audio, Portable Video Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen a product proudly designed in Cupertino erupt, but it’s pretty safe to say this story could have had a much more tragic ending. Reportedly, an ipod nano owner recently awoke to a blaring fire alarm around 2:00AM, only to find his beloved PMP wrapped in flames on the bedroom floor. Thankfully, the fire was tiny enough to be extinguished without any major trouble, and no substantial damage of property or human flesh was tallied. As of now, we’ve no idea if the unit simply exploded or if surrounding circumstances are at least partly to blame, but you can bet your bottom dol (Read the full post about ‘iPod nano sparks bedroom fire, no humans harmed’…)

Pentax canceling the 645 Digital to focus on K-series DSLRs?
Posted Mar 8th 2008 2:29AM by Nilay PatelFiled under: Digital Cameras Pentax’s 31.6 megapixel medium-format 645 Digital has been announced for over a year now — we’ve even seen one in the flesh — but it’s never actually shipped, and now it looks like it never will. According to Impress, Pentax is killing off its digital medium format cameras to focus on K-series DSLRs, but the 645’s film versions will live on. Asus’ MS71 couldn’t choose between mouse and flash drive

Asus’ MS71 couldn’t choose between mouse and flash drive
Posted Mar 8th 2008 6:32AM by Darren MurphFiled under: Peripherals, Storage We hear it’s pretty tough being a gadget with an identity crisis, and unfortunately for Asus’ MS71, it definitely feels that pain. Thankfully for consumers who aren’t turned off by rectangular (or atypically slender) mice, at least it provides a bit of extra utility. Quite simply, the base of the critter snaps off to plug into any open USB port; from there, it enables what’s left to function as a wireless mouse and allows users to store an undisclosed amount of files on the appendage.
