Elektrobit to release WinMo satellite phone in 2009?

Written by admin on Monday, April 21st, 2008 in gadgets.

Apparently so, at least according to The Boy Genius and then touted by Engadget (and now, I guess, again by me).

While the device could deliver several promising features to the consuming masses, there is an awful lot of speculation swirling around it to bank on it performing up to par — or ever being released.

Currently, the device is slated to have a sat-link provided by the yet-to-launch TerreStar (an entity with its own fair share of hype).

Canon Blunder Leaks New DSLR On German Site
If this screen-grab is to be believed, Canon Germany has made something of a blunder. The picture shows the hotly anticipated EOS 5D Mark II, and confirms a few features: a 16 Megapixel sensor, a 6.5 fps shooting speed, the new Digic III processor and a weatherproof body. The originals are posted below for your Photoshop scrutinization. We don’t know why the anonymous tipster didn’t click through to the product page to get the full rundown, but it could be that the page didn’t exist (this alleged thumbnail has already been pulled from the Canon.de site) or that this is indeed a fake. But given the somewhat chaotic nature of global industry, and the rumors of an April 24th announcement, we wouldn’t be surprised if this is for real. by Joshua Topolsky, posted Apr 19th 2008 at 3:19AM What’s better than having a nice leather or cloth ipod sleeve to show off to your friends? If you’re thinking one made of imitation meat — you’re dead right! Apparently, a company in Japan is under the impression that you want to wrap your music player in a grade A lookalike, undoubtedly to the thrill of your vegetarian friends and family. Of course, don’t just get one for the shock value — this thing oozes pure, sophisticated style. (Read the full post about ‘iPod sleeve takes fashion to its logical, meaty conclusion’…)

Sail Wagon
Photos of this sail wagon were posted on the Library of Congress’ Flickr feed a couple of weeks ago. Sail Wagon, Brooklyn (Library of Congress) by Bain News Service, publisher from Flickr This entry from the Kansas State Historical Society has some information about them: Kansas State Historical Society - Wind Wagons A novel device of the Kansas territorial period was the wind wagon, sometimes called a sailing wagon. Several were built and in 1860 the press gave them considerable attention. They were similar to an ordinary light wagon; weighed about 350 pounds; had a bed about three feet wide, eight feet long, and six inches deep; and were propelled by a sail or sails raised over the center of the front axle. Javabot for coffee addicts

Most office workers will be able to tell you - coffee is the elixir of life, never mind water. A hot cup of joe is the perfect tonic to kickstart a day, especially during those dreary Mondays. The Javabot brings coffee making to the 21st century, delivering your favorite blend of seven beans, including the way they are roasted, the ground and temperature at which the coffee is brewed, all in a mere half a minute. This makes the Javabot the first and only walk-in coffee machine in the world, but should this idea catch on, expect different varieties to start making an appearance throughout offices (and maybe even rich homes) worldwide. No better way to keep the morale up than by pampering their stomachs, eh? (Read the full post about ‘Javabot for coffee addicts’…)

You can have contempt for this email
It doesn’t look like the participants in the McAfee S.P.A.M. Experiment have received grand jury summonses in their inboxes yet, but it’s something they can look out for. According to the FBI’s press release about the email, “At first glance, the e-mail appears authentic. It contains a court case number, federal code, name and address of a California federal court, court room number, issuing officers’ names, and the court’s seal. The spammer directs recipients to click the link provided in the e-mail in order to download and print associated information for their records. Amazon’s Kindle Back In Stock

Amazon’s Kindle Back In Stock
Head over to Amazon’s Kindle page and you’ll see these long-awaited words: Availability: In Stock. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available. Whether it was excessive demand or a mess-up at the factory which caused the Wii-like shortage, Jeff Bezos’ ebook reader (and always-on internet appliance) is back. It’s still $400, it’s still ugly, and it still won’t make you look like a romantic intellectual when you read it whilst sipping espresso at a Paris pavement café. But it is the first step towards a cheap and useable ebook reader, unless Apple gets there first. We particularly like Amazon’s tagline for the Kindle: “Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device”. Yes, Wireless reading device. (Read the full post about ‘Amazon’s Kindle Back In Stock’…)

PayPal won’t be blocking Safari after all

PayPal won’t be blocking Safari after all

Breathe easy, folks. Remember this morning’s news about PayPal planning to block Apple’s Safari browser after deeming it as unsafe? Well, all that is water under the bridge now as PayPal has issued a statement saying otherwise. A company spokeswoman mentioned in an e-mail late Friday, “We have absolutely no intention of blocking current versions of any browsers, including Apple’s Safari, from our website.” That’s great, as you will be able to continue experiencing all the benefits of Safari while doing your online shopping through a multitude of sites that support PayPal instead of relying on just buggy Internet Explorer.
