Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

MeLE GMT-600 PMP
MeLE’s GMT-600 portable media player not only plays back your favorite movies and songs, it also features GPS navigation for you to get around unfamiliar territories. With a 4.3″ LCD display, you won’t go blind while finding your way around, and the 160GB 2.5″ hard drive within has more than ample space for you to store an entire digital library of media with space to spare. Let’s face it, even if your commute to work takes an hour each day, 160GB is still plenty space before you loop back to the first song you ever played on it. Not too sure on pricing though, but it shouldn’t be out of the ordinary range. (Read the full post about ‘MeLE GMT-600 PMP’…)

Green Seach Engine

Green Seach Engine
Search engines are search engines, right? Apparently not. Ecocho.co.uk prides itself in being the first free green search engine in the world, offsetting carbon emissions at no cost to the user. It was recently launched in the UK along with 14 other countries all over the world, and is powered by both Google and Yahoo!. This Australian initiative was specially designed to combat environmental change by sponsoring the planting of two trees for every 1,000 searches made. I wonder where will they find the amount of land to plant trees, and will there be any follow up on how the trees are treated years down the road? Alleviate a little bit of your guilt for driving a Hummer by doing some searches at www.ecocho.co.uk. (Read the full post about ‘Green Seach Engine’…)

Parrot rolls out world’s first NFC-enabled speaker

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

Only days after the announcement of the NFC-enabled Nokia 6212 Classic, there is already an NFC-compatible accessory that goes with it. The Parrot PARTY Black Edition, according to its makers, is the first in the world to commercialize Near Field Communications Technology or NFC. What this means is that not only is it small and portable, but it will be very easy to pair up with compatible devices and pump up the volume. It’s not just easy, it’s ridiculously easy. Think knocking the two devices against each other and you get the picture. Other than being NFC-enabled, this baby also comes with a built-in Class-D amplifier, two drivers that collectively pump out 6 watts of power, Stereo Widening, and a so-called Virtual SuperBass technology.

T-Mobile to launch 3G

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

The blogs are abuzz with rumors of T-Mobile finally launching a 3G network here in the US. According to TmoNews, New York will be the first city to get the coveted high-speed connections in May. Another 24 cities will also be outfitted with 3G in the coming months. Of course this is all rumor and not confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt. And it means jack squat for us Sidekick users, until a 3G version of the Sidekick comes out. But with T-Mobile supporting 3G in the near future, that means there is more motivation for them to get out a 3G version of the Sidekick in order to keep that market going.

Limited edition Sony Ericsson W910i to come preloaded with Def Jam hits
Sony Ericsson and Def Jam records have made a deal to pack the newest Sony Ericsson W910i limited edition white/gold handsets with hit videos and songs by artists that are under the popular music label. Among the artists included in the deal are Ludacris, Nas, Fabolous, Rick Ross, Chingy, Rocko, Rihanna and Ne-Yo. They even threw in the two divas Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey into the mix. This will have fairly old songs (which are still good, nonetheless) preloaded onto Sony Ericsson W910i phones, as well as a few videos. They also have this package exclusively in the UK courtesy of Carphone Warehouse. This is good news for hip-hop enthusiasts, I’m sure. CES 2008: Sony Rolly MP3 Player

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

The Sony Rolly was surrounded with so many people that it was impossible for us to get close enough to it. We could see on the LCD screen above it that it was some sort of rolling, dancing thing with lights. We heard from the people nearby that it as an MP3 player. We brushed it off as silly and moved on to other things.

Jen Cody was able to get past the crowds and interview a Sony employee about the Rolly. Here is her interview:

It was released in Japan last September, but hasn’t come here yet.

ION VCR 2 PC digitizes old memories

So you’re part of the remnant on this earth that still owns video tapes but have run out of players to play them. Why not digitize these video tapes instead? At least you will be able to loop them infinitely on your PC, and best of all is there is no need to rewind those tapes once you’re done as everything can be done at the click of a button. ION Audio has just released its VCR 2 PC device that connects to your PC via USB 2.0, with an adjacent composite connection for camcorders, while RCA output is located on the back to playback previews on a TV. In the PAL version, you will find the SCART output as well. All digital conversion will be in the H.264 for ipod/PSP or MPEG-2 for DVD authoring formats. Earth Day Gadgets: Universal Solar Cell Phone/iPod Charger

With today being Earth Day 2008 here in the United States, I thought it would be good to highlight some eco-friendly gadgets for all the gadget lovers out there who want to do their part for the environment. Doing something good for the environment doesn’t involve having to live in a mud hut, sustaining yourself off wheat grass and tofu and wearing only hemp clothing. You can be on the cutting edge of technology and still be green. Who doesn’t own a cell phone or an mp3 player? Even my grandparents have cell phones. But these items need to be recharged on a regular basis otherwise they just turn into expensive paperweights or something you use to hold a door open. (See? Internet to reach its limit by 2010?

Written by admin on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008 in gadgets.

During an eForum on Web 2.0 held in London last week, Jim Cicconi, vice president of legislative affairs at AT&T suggested the Internet won’t cope without investment by 2010. He stated:

The surge in online content is at the centre of the most dramatic changes affecting the internet today … In three years’ time, 20 typical households will generate more traffic than the entire internet today … We are going to be butting up against the physical capacity of the internet by 2010 .

AT&T have already earmarked US$19 billion to upgrade its own infrastructure, but Cicconi believes US$55 billion is required across the U.S.

ASUS: 10-inch Eee PC coming this year, Atom in June
by Thomas Ricker, posted Apr 21st 2008 at 5:08AMJerry Shen, ASUS CEO, is casually twisting Eee PC fans into a tizzy this morning. At the launch of the 8.9-inch Eee PC 900 in Taiwan, he uttered the magical phrase “10-inch Eee PC” for the first time. Expected sometime later this year, Shen said that the 10-inch screen will be the biggest allowed on the Eee PC. Good for you Jerry, but we’ve got the feeling that you’ve completely forgotten about the original promise of a $200, 7-inch laptop. Surely we’re due for a price drop now that the 900 is out, right?Update: Asus also confirmed that an Atom-based Eee PC will launch at the Computex show just like we heard.
