3D mammograms increase breast cancer detection by 23 percent
by Joshua Fruhlinger, posted Jul 5th 2008 at 11:57AM Scientists have developed stereo mammograms — breast X-rays taken with special cameras and at multiple angles — that they say can help them increase detection of breast cancer by 23-percent while decreasing false alarms by 46-percent. By overlaying images taken at different angles or using 3D glasses, Researchers at the Mayo clining say they can now see behind dense tissue that would normally block potential problem areas. Since early detection is a key factor in beating breast cancer, this is an exciting new development.[Via Slashgear]Read PermalinkEmail this57 CommentsFiled under: Misc. Digital Baby Photos
Filed in archive Tip by jim on July 05, 2008 Photo courtesy of iStockphoto, Mark Goddard Taking baby pictures is something I haven't done very often and, in fact, the last time I did it was with a film camera. So it's time to check out what others are doing with their digital cameras and babies. The article I found has quite a few very innovative ideas in it including the use of "macro" for baby pictures. Now I know that babies are tiny, but I never would have thought of using the macro setting for people pictures, but this digital photographer has some great ideas for using macro. Check out this article about digital baby pictures and then find, or make a baby, and try these techniques. (Read the full post about ‘Digital Baby Photos’…)

Android first sprung up on the Nokia N810 internet tablet a few months back, however the install process was a little more challenging. Well as technology goes, things generally have a way of becoming easier with some time and that certainly applies to completing the Android installation process on the N810.

Now its as simple as three easy steps.

Researchers boast of progress with printed electronics

Written by admin on Saturday, July 5th, 2008 in gadgets.

There’s certainly no shortage of researchers working on printable electronics these days, but a group from the EU-funded CONTACT project is now boasting of a “major step” towards being able to print electronics on everyday materials. At the moment, they seem to be focused primarily on printing organic TFT displays directly onto glass plates, which apparently required the use of some aggressive solvents that “attack” the organic materials between the TFT and liquid crystal layers. Their current Labratester 1 printer (pictured above) apparently still has some problems precisely lining up each layer, however, but they say that’ll be fixed with the addition of some optical cameras in the Labratester 2 machine they’re now working on. Gigabyte releases the M912V Atom-powered notebook

Written by admin on Saturday, July 5th, 2008 in gadgets.

Gigabyte has just released the M912V notebook in Taiwan. This tablet style notebook features a touch sensitive swivel LCD panel with a 1280×768 resolution, a 160GB 2.5-inch SATA hard drive,1GB of RAM, an express card slot, a 1.3-megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi, and even has an option for built-in HSDPA support.

The M912V would have been a good competitor to most of the netbooks around if not for its high price. This M912V is expected to retail for around $890 and it will come pre-installed with Windows Vista. Unfortunately for us, there are no words yet as to whether the M912V would be released internationally.
