Review: Svelte Samsung Slider Has a Mighty Morphin’ Touch Screen
Samsung SGH-U900 Soul "Magical Touch"Before we got our mits on this much hyped, 5-megapixel Korean import, we were slightly skeptical. Sure, we got to play with it a little at CTIA (when it was solely called the Soul) and were instantly cast under a spell of gadget lust. But really, anytime a manufacturer dubs a product “Magic” we’re secretly hoping it has the ability to turn PCs into Macs and make Edge networks disappear. The Samsung U900 aka Soul aka Magical Touch doesn’t really have any supernatural abilities. What it does have is a tiny touch OLED nav-pad that is one of the coolest, most efficient touch interfaces we’ve seen on a handset. Cantor Gaming has introduced its latest gambling device, the eDeck. The eDeck allows users to play a variety of popular casino games, and since its wireless, they can go online and gamble for real. Cantor is also looking to add their proprietary games to the eDeck such as Bonus Roulette, XtraOdds Baccarat and Statjack. Gambling anywhere? That sure sounds dangerous. Sidekick 2008/Gekko vs Sidekick 3

Sidekick 2008/Gekko vs Sidekick 3
There are quite a few of you out there still hanging onto the Sidekick 3, and wondering if it’s time to upgrade to the Sidekick 2008. Well, here’s our opinion, toss yours in the comments: If you’ve been sticking with a Sidekick 3 (or one of the older devices) then it’s time to upgrade. Take our word for it, you’ll love the higher resolution screen and won’t be able to go back. There’s video playback and recording. The new features in the browser (full page mode) and some new OS tweaks (Quickfind, new address book behavior, etc) are very handy to have. The keyboard may take some getting used to, but in our opinion it’s better than both the 3 and the II keyboards. (Read the full post about ‘Sidekick 2008/Gekko vs Sidekick 3′…)

Microsoft Midori OS – sounds delicious!

Written by admin on Thursday, July 31st, 2008 in gadgets.

SD Time has had access to Microsoft documents that provides the outline of a future operating system (OS) called Midori that would achieve backwards compatibility with Windows and run either natively, in the cloud or as a process (sounds like emulation). The networked nature of the system might allow it to share the data (or even itself?) among multiple machines of different types (desktop, laptop, phone…). This new distributed model is known at Microsoft as “Asynchronous Promise Architecture”.

It sounds very interesting and if you’re a bit technical, you might want to read the rest of it at SD Times.

FireWire Gets Speed Bump
The IEEE 1394 standard, better known as FireWire, will be receiving a new specification that is capable of supporting bandwidth of up to 3.2Gb/s. This is a huge boost, considering the current FireWire 400 and 800 specifications run at 400Mb/s and 800Mb/s, respectively. Good thing backwards compatibility will be retained, otherwise most of the computing world will kick up a huge fuss about the situation. (Read the full post about ‘FireWire Gets Speed Bump’…)

T-Mobile Sidekick, plain and simple

Written by admin on Thursday, July 31st, 2008 in gadgets.

T-Mobile Sidekick, plain and simple
After much speculation on what the latest Sidekick device from T-Mobile will be called, the carrier decided to just name it Sidekick, plain and simple. There won’t be any other code name attached to it, bringing us back to the basics. You will be able to choose to fit one out of two shells that come with each Sidekick purchase - black and metallic green. There will also be a wide range of pre-designed shell patterns and colors for you to pick up at T-Mobile retail stores or online, and I’m pretty sure we won’t have to wait for long until someone with an excess amount of Swarovski crystals and super glue decide to bling up their Sidekick.
