Blood bag cell phone strap is just what the doc ordered

Blood bag cell phone strap is just what the doc ordered
What is the one thing that you should always carry with you in case of an emergency? A bottle of your own blood, of course! Of course not. What we’re suggesting here is something lighter - the idea of carrying a bag of blood-like liquid with your blood type printed boldly on it. And you wear the Blood Drip Cellphone Strap on your cell phone or other small gadget. If you live in Japan, where some believe that your blood type is indicative of your personality, this cell phone strap can signal a subtle hint regarding your character to someone you’re trying to impress. According to this belief about a blood group-personality connection, my worst traits are that I am critical and indecisive. Cute Butterfly Speakers iPod Dock with interchangeable faceplates

Cute Butterfly Speakers iPod Dock with interchangeable faceplates
If you’re looking for an iPod dock that is a little more feminine, you’ll love these Butterfly Speakers.  Although frankly, after staring at them for a few minutes I don’t see a single butterfly.  I thought for a second maybe it was the overall shape, but even that is just curved nicely but not necessarily modeled after a butterfly.  If anything this should be called Flower Speakers or something equally descriptive.  Alright, they’re cute so I suppose I can let it slide that the product name doesn’t quite describe the product. Synaptics introduce ChiralRotate and Two-Finger Flick

Synaptics introduce ChiralRotate and Two-Finger Flick
Synaptics has announced new gestures to join its expanding portfolio of gesture recognition capabilities, with the ChiralRotate and Two-Finger Flick taking the limelight. Just in case Synaptics rings a bell, that’s because its TouchPads are often found in popular notebook brands as well as peripheral keyboards, and in light of Apple’s multi-touch capability on its iphone and ipod touch, it makes perfect sense for Synaptics to do something about the situation and shore up their portfolio. Millions calling for Facebook boycott

Millions calling for Facebook boycott
Millions of disgruntled Facebook users are calling for a boycott. The reason is the popular social networking site’s new design, which changed user profiles from an all in one page to a tabbed interface. Several Facebook groups have sprung up to protest the change. One, called “1,000,000 Against the New Facebook Layout,” has nearly 3 million members, while two others, “Petition Against the New Facebook” and “I Hate The New Facebook” have over a million members each.  Even though it’s extremely likely that the memberships of all three groups overlap, the numbers are still impressive. “The goal is to send a strong signal to Facebook. Acme Made Tote Disguises Camera as Bowling Ball

Acme Made Tote Disguises Camera as Bowling Ball
My name is Charlie and I have a bag fetish. There. I said it. From my desk, I can count thirteen of them, from high-end bike panniers to gizmo-laden camera pouches, and I haven’t even checked under the bed. The trouble with bags is that you can never find the perfect fit, but the promise is always there. Every bag you buy solves a problem, but highlights a new one, especially when you are in the business of carrying gadgets. A dedicated camera bag will fit in all your gear, for example, but it will crack your spine, offer an easy target for a thief and, worst of all, it has no place for keeping tobacco. Acme Made’s new Bowler Tote doesn’t take care of the tobacco angle, but it offers stylish disguise for a DSLR. (Read the full post about ‘Acme Made Tote Disguises Camera as Bowling Ball’…)

Life Without a Cellphone: Readers’ Opinions

Life Without a Cellphone: Readers’ Opinions
Photo: flattop341 / Flickr Our ‘life without a cellphone experiment’ kicked up a lot of interest from readers (not least the estimable beer sipping, budgie loving John Brownlee of BoingBoing gadgets, who openly sneers at my almost-retro Sony Ericsson P900). While my own experiment failed miserably (Brownlee: “Charlie Sorrel abandoned his quest to go a week without a cellphone within mere hours”) it’s worth looking at a few of the schemes you proposed, beginning with this quite excellent hack from regular Gadget Lab correspondent Andrea Biasi: I’ve read some time ago about an Android application which used geographical data of the GPS to use different settings for different location.
